DIY Wednesday: 60th Anniversary Party

It’s hump day! Wednesday will be when I feature a DIY project. This will vary from jewelry tutorials, various craft projects I find on Pinterest, some easy/basic sewing projects, various home decor ideas to random things like today.

I have to say that I am not starting off blogging again so well… I didn’t have the time (or the inspiration) to create a new tutorial this week. However, I had some not too old photos in my archives of the decorations I did for a friends grandparents 60th anniversary party. Here’s a little taste of the decorations that I created for the party, which was held at a lovely outdoor space of a local restaurant.

For starters, with the help of my mother’s impressive floral arrangement skills, I did the centerpieces and table numbers.

Around each vase I created a five sided “picture frame.” My friend gave me a lot of old photos of her grandparents and I scanned all of them and cropped them into squares. I then put them into a word document, sized the photos to 4×4 inches and had them printed on regular paper at Staples.

The table numbers were cut out using my Cricut and the wire is a thick floral wire that I twisted into a spiral at the top to hold the cards in each centerpiece.

The photos were all different and it was a nice way to see the history of this adorable couple that has been married for 60 years!

I also created a pennant “Happy Anniversary” sign.

I simply cut light green card stock and backed with white card stock, both in a pennant shape.  Across the top of each pennant I put a blue dot cutout and the letters are in light green cut out using the Cricut. I then attached the pennants to white grosgrain ribbon.

I also created place cards and a custom subway art that included special people and places to the couple.

The place cards are white card stock that I printed the text on and then added a small purple border cut from the Cricut. I personally created the subway art, had it printed at Staples and then framed it for the couple. The photos standing up in the picture below are glued onto foam core board and then I glued a small triangle of foam core on the back and embellished them with a small cutout also from the Cricut. I then sealed the photo with Mod Podge.

Finally, I made this “60” out of cardboard, ribbon and some paper embellishments. I made the numbers three dimensional by cutting 2 of each number and separating them with 4-5 small squares of cardboard glued together. If this doesn’t make sense, there are lots of tutorials for 3-d numbers on Pinterest. I then wrapped them in an inexpensive cream ribbon and added the ribbon flower and paper embellishments.

Here are some other pictures of the completed space.

The centerpiece picture wraps could also be used for a birthday party or a baby shower. It would be really cute to use the baby pictures of the expectant parents. The numbers would be great for a birthday party too and they are really simple to make.

I hope this inspires you when decorating for your next special occasion.
